Project Updates Please Expert Panel

On 15.06.2015 the second expert panel meeting was held in Havant, Hampshire.

In attendence were representatives of the Environment Agency, Natural England, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife trust, RSPB, New Forest District Council & CCO and the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership.

The project team presented on progress since the first meeting in early 2015 and the developments in data gathering and Website and App development. The expert panel were supportive of the adopted approach to date and also the proposed activities moving forwards.

The meeting was hugely productive and provided further guidance to the developing project. The project logo was universally approved and the new slogan ‘working together with nature’ also agreed by vote.

Looking forward the project team will continue efforts to engage the public and get passionate birders involved in this project. The App and website will continue to be developed with roll out in September 2015. Analysis of 5 years of BTO data will now be completed in advance of the approaching season while a plan for catchesin 2015/2016 is produced.

Project Website & recording App procured!

The Solent Birds team are delighted to announce that they are now working with Natural Apptitude to produce a new recording website and App for the Solent Region. This App will allow local volunteers and enthusiasts to electronically record their sightings of protected species in the field. All data collected from the website and App will then be added to the same database of records.

The app will be FREE! and all data collected will be made freely available to the community and will not be sold for profit.

We look forward to releasing the App and Website in the near future. This is a huge step for the project and we hope the local birding community will embrace this development.

Keen to help us test the App? please email us at info@escp.org.uk to express your interest!

Have a great day!
